
OD in thirty seconds
Founded in Uppsala in 1853.
Over the years has developed into one of the world’s most interesting male-voice choirs under the direction of Hugo Alfvén, Eric Ericsson, Robert Sund, and Cecilia Rydinger Alin.
Has performed with major international opera stars such as Peter Mattei, Malena Ernman, Katarina Dalayman, and Anne Sofi von Otter, and with great Swedish artists like Margareta Krook, Tage Danielsson, Monica Zetterlund, Povel Ramel, Carola, Björn Skifs, Henrik Dorsin, Ulla Skoog, Martin Stenmarck, and David Batra.
Has sung in most of the world’s great concert venues, including Royal Albert Hall in London, Philharmonie in Berlin, Lincoln Center in New York, and Symphony Hall in Osaka.
Tours Sweden annually and the world regularly.
Gives three recurring concerts during the year: Spring Concert in April, Serenade in June, and Caprice in December.
Has an annual concert audience of 20,000 people.
Has a repertoire of great range, from folk tunes to atonal music.
Each year commissions new compositions or arrangements from Swedish and foreign composers.
Makes new recordings virtually every year and has sold close to 150,000 records.
Has sung for the Swedish and Danish royal couples and for the Japanese emperor and his wife.
Has its own street and park named after it in Uppsala.
